Before you can achieve consistent home business success you need to have a plan for success. Before you can develop an effective plan, you need to set strong business goals. Whether or in business or in other areas of your life, goals will give you the focus to get to where you want to be.

There is an old saying that if you do not know where you’re going you will never know when you get there. If you want to get to home business success, your goals will give you the target to aim for.

It starts by putting your goals in writing. Many people claim to have goals, but they never get around to writing them down. While it is good that you have given some thought to what you want to achieve, by failing to write your goals down you are setting up hurdles in the way of your success.

You need to realize that one of the biggest keys to your success is right inside your own head. Your brain is programmed to help you get whatever you tell it that you want. If you want to do what it takes to be successful in a business venture, your brain can help you stay on track to be successful. The problem with not writing your goals down is that is sends a mixed message to your brain. You tell your brain that you want something, but you do not take steps to convince your brain that you are serious. Putting your goals in writing is a way of telling your brain that you are serious about achieving this goal.

Another way to keep your brain thinking in the right direction is by wording your goals correctly. To be effective goals should be specific, they should be written in the first person, and they should be written as if they are already true.

If you write as your goal “Make more money” you are making a wish, not a goal. What is more money? How long will it take to make more money? For that matter, who is making more money? If it takes you a month to earn an extra $20 a week, technically you have achieved your goal. A more effective goal would set a specific amount, and give a date for achieving that goal. “I earn $1,000 per week on June 16” is a much stronger goal. You brain cannot be confused about what it is you are trying to achieve.

The final thing is to make sure your goal is attainable. If you have little or no income, and a boat load of debt it is unrealistic to set a goal to retire with a million dollars in the bank within a year. There has to be a realistic expectation that you will actually attain your goal for it to be effective.

Your home business success can be achieved, and setting strong goals will make sure that happens. Write your goals down, and then go back on a regular basis to keep your goals fresh in your mind. Keep working toward your goals and there is no telling what you can accomplish.
