When I was still young, I remember my mom and my older sister watching 90210 episodes at night. I didn’t really care much about it back then. I guess I was too young, but now I finally get to watch it and to appreciate what made the show so popular back in the day. The show has a reboot and is now being updated to our generation. I watched the very first few 90210 episodes reboot and I knew I would have to watch every subsequent episode after that. The producers really did a fantastic job taking out the same material and transposing it into a modern, up to date setting. This makes the show fresh because the conflicts are revamped and the very angst of our times reflects in the character’s situation.

The 90210 episodes still follow the same format and still have the same themes. It still centers on the family from out of town and a girl in her first time in Beverly Hills. The out of town girl is suddenly immersed into the shocking culture of rich kids and dolce vita. 90210 is a quantum leap from their small Kansas town.

The show can be a bit confusing because of the intertwining plot lines, by that’s all. There are some minor problems because they sometimes leave a plot line hanging for days and days without continuation or resolution which can be a bit of drag. Then there are also some episodes that don’t leave you hanging at all, giving the audience all they want in one go.

One of the features I like about the episode formats is that they give a bit in the opening of the show. I really love shows that do that, they give you a slice of what’s to come just to whet your appetite. They cut to the opening number; it makes so much sense because it makes the opening song more meaningful.

The topics the new 90210 episodes are also impertinent, very socially relevant to our time. The topics the show touches are adoption, divorce, and the American culture of beauty that is based on thinness and material richness. Though the popular girls here are all so skinny and have expensive designer clothes that would probably buy a whole village in the third world a month’s worth of clean healthy drinking water, they are never the less shown to be superficial and unhappy.

However, it can be questioned as to whether the show really focuses on these problems. It just so happens to touch on them but doesn’t really go the distance to tackle the problems head on. But all in all, the show is entertaining and the superficiality of the whole affair is tempered by a conscious self parody in most 90210 episodes.
