In today's society the number of failed marriages is on the increase. Unfortunately the statistics on long-term relationships make extremely grim reading. More than 50% of first time marriages result in divorce and the figure gets worse for second marriages with the figure increasing to 67% for second time around.

People show an unabated need to find long-term companionship, often within monogamous unions legitimated by legal and often religious record. Western culture dictates that finding a single person to spend the rest of one's life with is desirable, a step toward the balance intended by nature.

The creator of Meet a Mate Week, which is celebrated annually the week of June 11th, suggests that while the success of a relationship depends on many factors, not the least of which is the elusive aspect of luck or fate, it can't hurt to be in the right place at the right time. That is to make oneself available to a casual meeting that may lead to much more.

For the occasion, singles are urged take the proactive approach to finding a mate by pursuing their interests in a social setting, not only to keep from missing out on potential partners, but also some interesting people, the possibility of making good friends and having great times.

The observance of Meet a Mate Week encourages singles to seek outdoor activities, including travelling with a singles group or a friend. They may join an activity club for hiking, camping, rock-climbing, water-rafting or just getting out to a local park to get some sun and scope out a potential friend, lover, or life-partner. Take a more wholesome approach to meeting your Mr. or Ms. Right by signing up for some volunteer work with a community organization.

On a more ambitious note, you could arrange a neighbourhood clean-up activity, playground restoration, tree-planting or another beautification project. Participating or organizing an outdoor activity for the benefit of others or the community is a great way to meet involved, caring people, and acknowledge your shared interests and pursuits. No matter what you do, have a great time, do some good, and maybe even meet a mate.

Meet A Mate Week is now celebrated in many countries in the world and many people now send free e-cards to celebrate the event. Ecards are so easy to choose on the internet and many let you write your own personal message before emailing the ecard to the recipient. There are many free e-cards to choose from on the internet and just about every occasion is now catered for.

By sending a free e-card helps to make your feelings towards the recipient know. This is very handy during Meet A Mate Week and many relationships have begun through the sending of ecards. The recipient can then send back as many ecards as they like as the good thing about ecards is that they are free. This means that you can send as many free e-cards as you like without it costing you any money.
