Computer is a very basic device in the technological world but it does contain hundreds of small devices and equipments. We are here trying to get acquainted with USB ports and cables that also play an important role in the perfect working of a computer. USB stands for the Universal Serial Bus which is used to join the various electronic devices. USB ports and cables were specially designed to modify the plug-in properties of the system and to offer external power supply to low-consumption devices as well.
Now-a-days, every computer is designed with two or more USB connectors at the back of the hardware. These ports make it easier to connect all USB devices, from mouse to scanner and printer, with the computer. These ports and cables come in different types based on the mode of their insertion. For example, there are parallel ports as well as serial ports. Both have different functions to perform for the computer system.

The most important goal of USB ports is to provide relief to the user in getting rid of the connection problems. The ports provide you a single way to connect a large number of devices at the same time.
Along with this, a particular USB cable, when connected to hub, can perform all of its functions from the distance of 6 meters. And when it connects to the devices,it can run up to 35 meters as well. All ports and cables contain three wires for power and a pair of overlapped wires to transfer the data. Here, power wires can provide 600 milliamperes of power at the voltage of 6 volts. You need not disconnect at the time of 'no-use'. The computer goes to the power-saving mode and thus, USB ports and cables may remain connected to the computer forever.
Some of the devices that are connected to USB ports and cables are printers, mouse, scanner, joystick, storage devices, cameras, telephones and a number of other Universal Serial Bus devices as well.
