Is there a right time for organising team away days? Is there a right way to go about it and how do you make sure that everyone enjoys it? It may seem like you have a mountain to climb when you set out to organise your away day but it really isn't quite as bad as all that!

With so many different event companies offering a huge range of team away days, it can often seem like playing Russian roulette, how do you know if an event company is any good? In this industry experience does shine through, if you call a company they should be able to offer a range of solutions to match the objectives that you give. They should not only welcome questions but actively encourage them! They should be able to show you testimonials and normally they'll have previous clients who will be more than happy to talk to you about their experience. It does seem a little odd but there are people who book events without ever actually speaking to the company. If you have any doubts or questions, get straight on the phone! If the person on the other end of the phone doesn't inspire you, then how on earth are they going to inspire your team?

Ok, so you have found a company that you feel confident about, what next? You'll need a good selection of activities to consider for your team away days there should always be a selection to choose from rather than just one. One thing about team events is that sometimes it is not always obvious to you how they work, if you are not sure then just ask the events company. You may be interested in a school sports day for your team, you understand what it is, of course you do but you are not quite sure how it works and what will be expected from you - ask. I can't express this enough, if you are in any doubt at all just ask, ask, ask! A good team building company understands the need for you to ask questions and no question is silly or small, if you don't know the answer then it's a valid question!

If you are booking the venue yourself for the event then ask the events company for specific details of what they need, outside grounds, room space or any other special requirements. Don't presume you will know what they need because chances are that you won't know. If you would prefer, ask the event company to call the venue you are booking or have booked directly themselves, they are very used to organising team away days and can ensure that they get everything that they need to successfully host the event for you.

There's a lot more to organising successful and enjoyable team away days than we have discussed here but I do think that we have highlighted the importance of a good level of communication between yourself and the event company. If you can speak to them and feel happy asking questions, if you can give them all of the information that they need and if they encourage you to pick up the phone or drop them an email, then you have every chance of hosting a wonderful away day!
