In the past, most travelers to Florida would stay in a hotel, but that is beginning to change. Travelers are becoming more educated about their choices in accommodations, and many people are now choosing to stay in a vacation home or condo. The reasons for this vary, but perhaps the main reason for the switch is the need for more space. Families are traveling more often, and with more people, and they are finding that hotel rooms do not offer them the space and privacy that a vacation home does.

Vacation rentals have been gaining in popularity over the past several years, especially in the Orlando area. A reason for this may be that a family can rent a home for their vacation for about the same price as they would pay for a moderately priced hotel room. Families and large groups traveling together are finding that a home suits their need for space, privacy, and comfort more than a hotel room does. Family members can each enjoy having their own bedroom, and they are able to enjoy their vacation more without getting under each other's feet.

Families traveling with small children often find it easier to accommodate nap schedules and eating schedules of the kids when staying in a vacation home. The rest of the family doesn't need to tip toe around a sleeping child when there is enough space for the child to have her own bedroom.

Hotels are usually close to plenty of area attractions and entertainment, and usually have on-site restaurants and other amenities. However, vacation homes offer guests the flexibility of dining in and saving money. And often, these homes are located in resort type communities where guests have use of a community pool and other amenities also found at hotels, such as tennis courts, fitness centers and game rooms.

The most common way guests find a home to book it online. There are many management companies with websites dedicated to Orlando vacation homes. Or you can visit a local travel agent. Many travel agents contract with management companies to book homes from them for their clients. Or you can simply contact the owners directly and cut out the "middle man". Like management companies, many owners have their own websites dedicated to promoting their vacation properties. Booking directly through the owners also offers a more personalized service, with the owner offering tips and helpful hints for first time visitors to the area.
