Whenever you log on to the internet, your local system initiates communication with a server and other interlinked computers on the web by means of a stable IP address configured by default. Each time you browse a website, that portal saves and logs your IP address in a file, storing it indefinitely in its archives for further reference and/ or protection purposes. This is harmless to you and your computer, that unless a hacker gets a hold of your connection details and uses them against you.

By tracking your activity and connecting the traces you leave when you surf the internet, hackers can find out a lot about you. Besides numerous implications with respect to privacy violation, hacking can also lead to very serious outcomes like local data destruction/ theft and credit card fraud. To eliminate these risks, you will need to take preventive measures, and not just any kind – the ones that really work.

When it comes to ensuring anonymous surfing and shaking hackers off your tracks, IT experts recommend choosing one of the following two methods – connecting to the internet through an anonymous proxy server or using an IP hider.

1. Connecting through an anonymous proxy server

Anonymous proxy services are specialized services that act like an intermediary between your computer and the World Wide Web. Such services confer users a high level of privacy by substituting their IP address with the one of the proxy server. Establishing connection through an anonymous proxy server requires a simple browser configuration, typically in areas like connection protocols and port numbers. Currently there is a plethora of decent anonymous proxy servers on the internet, many of which offer free services.

2. Using an IP Hider

The other way to ensure your privacy and safety online is to use an IP hider, which usually comes in the form of specialized software that requires installation on your local computer. IP hiders keep your real IP address hidden and replace it with another predefined or randomly generated address every time you connect to the internet. Since with each login your system takes on a different network identity, it is virtually impossible for hackers to track and trace you online. IP hiders are available either free, either in exchange for a small one-time fee. Delivered as internet-driven services, they may require paying a monthly fee.

In terms of performance, both proxy servers and IP hiders provide about the same results. However, anonymous proxy servers can be slightly more problematic. There have been reports of proxy clients being harassed and exploited by the very services that should have kept them safe from such abuse, so be careful how you choose your services! Better yet, stay on the side of safety and opt for a popular, well-reviewed IP hider instead, even if this involves spending some money in the process. Once you have downloaded the software, installed it and set it up to your computer, you no longer have to worry about privacy issues, hacking attempts, or any other inconveniences of this nature!
