As it is an island there are countless water based activities and great selection of watersports all over the island, as well as excursions in glass-bottomed boats, swimming and snorkelling. The first-rate road network also means you can take a family trip up into the winding, mountain roads and admire the breathtaking views.
Mallorca has lots of social events going on, especially in Palma, so hiring a car during your stay makes sense. Staying at a hotel, the only choice you have is to eat out every day which can work out very expensive when there are a few of you to feed. A villa has cooking facilities so gives you a choice, however then you'll need to think about transport to go shopping for water and groceries. Don't worry too much though, if you prefer not to hire a car most of the local towns have daily markets where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, and try out some of the local delicacies.
