If you have always wanted to visit Thailand but are hesitant after watching the riots and demonstrations by Red Shirt protesters in Bangkok just a few months ago, then consider again as it would be a shame to miss out on this fascinating country.

When anti-government protesters started congregating in Bangkok last March, Thailand was experiencing a positive recovery from the effects of the global recession. However as the demonstrations turned to violent clashes and riots between the government and red shirt protestors, Thailand's economy took a serious beating as the world watched the events on their TV's. Although most of the troubles were contained to a certain area within the capital, the riots had a major effect on the tourism industry all over Thailand, particularly in the resort areas of Samui who reported a major drop in hotel occupancy, visitor arrivals, and charter flights.

Tourism is the biggest industry and revenue in Thailand, fortunately the past few months has seen the country return to a peaceful destination once more and the industry is making a remarkable recovery as travellers' regain confidence once more in the 'land of smiles'. Part of this confidence is due to the tempting discounts and offers from top hotels and resorts, with some offering as much as 50% off their normal prices it's no surprise travellers are seeking Koh Samui shores once again! Where else can you get to spend time on a tropical isle surrounded by turquoise waters and white sandy beached at a fraction of the cost you would pay for any European destination?

Koh Samui is a beautiful island with something to appeal to everyone. One of the largest in Thailand, it's also one of the most beautiful and doesn't have a lot of competition when it comes to beaches, waterfalls, nightlife, luxury accommodation and restaurants.

Accommodation can be found in a basic bungalow on the beach, a 5 star hotel, or luxury resort. Most hotels and resorts are located in the busier areas, Chaweng and Lamai, but if you want solitude away from the crowds then it's still possible to find a quiet place located by an out-of-the-way beach or hidden away in the mountains.

Chaweng is the place for an exciting night out with streets full of bars, restaurants, and shopping opportunities. For a holiday you'll never forget check into a beach resort here and be within walking distance of the white sandy beaches and shopping areas, or if you wish you can simply stay put in the resort as they provide everything you could possibly need. Chaweng Hotels have some great special offers advertised, including reduced rates, free nights, free room upgrades, and more.

Lamai Beach is further along the coast and more peaceful, although it still has its fair share of bars and eating places to choose from. Find a luxury holiday villa if you want privacy and space, with some villas providing up to 6 bedrooms, if you have a family then this accommodation option works out much cheaper then a hotel.

Located on the north coast, the beaches of Bophut and Mae Name are tranquil places to chill out. First class Koh Samui hotels have all the facilities you could need, staff are extremely friendly and prices reasonable for what you get. For cheaper lodgings then bed and breakfast options are economical and value for money.

There are plenty of budget places to stay in Samui, including bungalows, apartments and rooms. If your plan is to get healthy then there are a number of spa and wellness resorts acting as sanctuaries of healing and wellbeing and specializing in various health and cleansing programmes.

Not many people visit Koh Samui without getting into the ocean, sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, kayaking and fishing trips are all easily available. The surrounding seas offer fantastic diving opportunities and the region acts as a dive training center for the South East Asia area.

High season in Koh Samui is not to be missed, special offers, promotions, last minute bookings and hot deals can get you a deluxe room with seaview or beachside villa at a heavily discounted price. Look online for Koh Samui hotels or villas today and make a booking for the holiday of your dreams.
