Acne is a chronic disorder that can be threatening if not put under control. Black heads, cysts, scarring and pimple outbreaks characterize the condition, and this is usually as a result production of excess oil by the sebaceous glands that then plugs the hair follicles. The plugs then starts to grow and this causes the eruption of the follicle wall, which then allows more cells to accumulate thus causing acne. Skin problem can also be caused by bacterial infection that inflames and infects the skin leading to more skin complications. The acne light therapy ensures that light has penetrated to the deepest parts of the skin without causing any harm to the skin. One of such therapies is the Blue Light therapy, which has proved to be quite effective in the treatment of acne.

This therapy involves three blue and three red fluorescent lamps. The treatment is based on the premise that light usually has positive effects when directed to the human skin at a regulated wavelength. The penetration of blue illumination into the skin attacks the Proprioni bacterium acnes, a bacterium that is responsible for pimples and blackheads. This treatment helps in reducing the production of oil and removing all dead cells to speed up the growth of new skin cells. The acne light also helps in fighting the possible bacterial infections. One can actually get the hand held one that is available in stores and it really works well in preventing occasional breakouts of acne.

The antibacterial effect found in Blue light therapy inhibits pimples and blackheads development while the work of the red illumination is to soothe the inflammations on the skin thus relaxing and stimulating the skin positively. This unique combination of illumination ensures there is a simultaneous operation. It also squeezes out the porphyrins, which are tiny molecules that are found in the hair follicles. Once these molecules are exposed to the illumination, they kill all the bacteria through the production of free radicals. The treatment does not use any UV radiation. This is new technology for the treatment of bad skin and it has proved to supersede the use of blue light therapy alone.

The benefits of using the red and blue light treatment are that it is purely natural and uses no drugs and thus there are neither adverse side effects nor pain. This therapy is usually fit for all ages and one can be self administered at the comfort of a home. There has been reported case of about seventy to eighty percent on the success of the blue acne light therapy within a period of 2 to 3 months and studies show that it works better than other therapies.
Author Resource:- There are still several unresolved issues on the treatment of acne as research is yet to prove who is the most likely to be the beneficiary of the blue light therapy. It is still not yet clear on what are the likely long-term side effects for the prolonged penetration of the blue acne light into the body. The use of acne light in the treatment can also be quite expensive, especially if is used for a long period.
