Many people know Barbados as a tropical island paradise and vacationers’ destination. And yes indeed, this is quite true. Barbados is really known for being a luxury tourist spot. But there is a whole lot more to the island than meets the eye.

Barbados is one of the islands in the famous Caribbean Sea. This country is just located in the West Indies. It is basically a single island that in the Atlantic. The island has gone through several ruling hands before settling down to autonomy. Its colonial masters had of course their own effect on the country’s culture. The Spanish were the first to claim the island way back in the year 1492 then it was later claimed by the Portuguese. Then after that, the colonial master of the country became the United Kingdom. And this colonial rule had the most impact especially since the rule of the British had lasted for almost three hundred years. Even until today, Queen Elizabeth II is still considered as their head of state.

The island is located fifty nine degrees thirteen degrees north of the equator and fifty nine degrees west of the PM. Some of the neighboring island countries are Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, Martinique, and the Grenadines. Other islands in the same vicinity are Tobago and Trinidad. Of course, the climate in the island is warm and tropical. There are lots of trade winds passing through and this makes it a little cooler and more refreshing for the people in the island. There are still many woodlands and gorgeous mangrove forests that litter the still unpopulated and pristine wilds of the island. For the most part though, agriculture has already taken over the land and sugar is one of the biggest crops. The pastures gently slope downward and show the visitors a great panoramic look at the coast which is sure to take one’s breath away with beauty.

The tourist will not have much problems commuting in Barbados. There are many convenient taxis that have a route system that go around certain key points in the island. These much like busses, only smaller. For those staying at hotels, they might want to get in touch with the hotel’s shuttle system which is usually available.

Barbados is dotted with a lot of tourist destinations. It is also home to some of the best hotels in the world. There are many five star hotels that cater to the rich and famous and to anyone who could afford the accommodations. However, there are also a lot of smaller hotels especially in the more developed and populous side of the island where the rates are a lot cheaper. Since the island is a prime tourist location, shopping districts also abound. There are lots of shopping districts that are duty free. The are also a lot of areas that have the most lively mardi gras night life where tourist and locals party all day and all night. For the most part, these parties are held in the streets then move its way on to the beach were the party really starts to rise.
