See that square device sitting in front of you? That is your computer monitor. It is big, bulky, generates a lot of heat, uses a lot of energy, and according to some experts, is not very safe. Most of us use an anti-radiation glass on the old style screen to keep any harmful radiation in check. Those kinds of measure are not necessary with the newer types of flat monitors.
The screen that we have become used to, are nothing more than televisions, based on cathode ray tube technology. They take up space and are not very efficient. Fortunately, there is a much better alternative.
Flat computer monitors are now available that can make your computing life much easier and better. These screens are much smaller, use less electricity, and are easier on the eyes. Some flat screens still use the CRT system of delivering to you the picture. However, they are much more efficient and friendly than the traditional types.
Other flat screens use the LCD technology. These screens never really need a screensaver because they do not burn the image on to the screen. They are lightweight and provide good resolution in all levels of ambient light that you are used to working in. You will find the LCD type flat screens on most notebook and laptop computers.
I personally find the quality of the flat computer monitors much better that the best of the old style screens. The colors seem to be more realistic and the depth of the graphics is better.
Probably the greatest advantage of flat screens is that you can buy a larger screen without it taking up so much room on you desk or table. The size of the flat screens from front to back is minimal especially if you buy the newer technology versions. It is very common now for a person to use a seventeen-inch or larger size of one of the newer flat screens. However, sizes can go as large as forty inches. These are great for businesses, particularly presentations and tele-conferencing. Even for personal use, the larger flat screens bring a new experience to working on your computer. You can simply see things better.
All of the major electronics manufacturers are making flat computer screens now. Prices have come down dramatically in the last few years. One other reason that users like these is that they are much more reliable than the old style CRT screens
